EBT/SNAP/Foodstamp recipients as advocates of local food/shopping at farmers' markets?

Has anyone seen any projects similar to http://hcdconnect.org/stories/potluck-with-a-purpose-2/ in other areas of the US? Basically leveraging food stamp (SNAP) recipients by documenting them as advocates of local food/shopping at farmers' markets?

I don't know of any projects exactly aligned with Potlucks With a Purpose, but a couple things came to mind as somewhat similar.

The first is a documentary I saw of a couple people choosing to use "a food stamp budget" for a short period of time. That can be found here.

The second is the organization Wholesome Wave which offers a 'Double Value Coupon Program' that "provides consumers with incentives that match the value of their federal nutrition benefits when used to purchase fresh, local produce at participating farm-to-retail venues." Their website is here:

Hope this helps!

Seth- Thanks so much! This is great information. We (the Maine Federation of Farmers' Markets) work closely with Wholesome Wave. I've been working with their Director of Policy, Ned Porter, who lives here in Maine, on EBT issues and Farm Bill policy. I also found this video footage on "The Faces of Foodstamps". It doesn't directly tie in to using foodstamps at farmers' markets but is interesting nonetheless. Also listened to a really interesting program on NPR the other day that mentioned how foodstamps were originally conceived of to be used as a way to boost agricultural sales in the U.S.... which is why foodstamps fall under the Farm Bill and not other welfare programs. You can listen to the program here:

Thanks again for the information--- very helpful!
