Do you have an update on the project so I can see where you are in the design process. I'm sure you have a prototype by now. I'm going to check your website for more details and an update. Thanks for sharing. The problem seems so large and overwhelming but you have made it tractable through solid thinking and immersive research. Looking forward to more!
Marika Shioiri-Clark commented on a story - Water Quality Product Designhttp://hcdconnect.org/stories/product-design-in-lighting-and-water-quality/comments/001/2012-05-15T19:55:59-08:002012-05-17T14:12:47-08:00Marika Shioiri-Clarkhttp://hcdconnect.org/profiles/marika/
Hi Adam. Sounds like a cool concept. I wonder if you could give a few more details about how you plan to use the HCD process as part of your research this summer? For example, have you planned out what your "Hear" research will look like? Who will you speak with in the community? Do you have experts lined up to speak with before you go? Are you planning to do any analogous research in other locations or in other sectors? Excited to hear an update on how things go.
Adam Dunn commented a commenthttp://hcdconnect.org/stories/product-design-in-lighting-and-water-quality/comments/001/comments/001/2012-05-17T14:12:44-08:002012-05-17T14:12:44-08:00Adam Dunnhttp://hcdconnect.org/profiles/adam-dunn/
Great questions, and I have definitely thought about them! I uploaded a lot of details about my process to the project website. Here's the link:
Concerning the HCD methods: I've used the old Method Cards extensively in the past, and I'm still getting used to the new names for some of the methods. Most of my "Hear" research will be centered around interviews with experts ("experts" on water collection and existing means of lighting, aka village residents; integrated health workers; Peace Corps volunteers; officials; vendors of current lighting products such as kerosene; etc), observation ("fly on the wall" and "day-in-the-life" activities, per the old Method Cards), and then graphically mapping all the information I accumulate in order to conceptualize the overarching context of everything.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, or feedback, please let me know! I'm always open to new ideas.
